  • A Flexible Solution for Manchester United

We are excited to share our recent collaboration with Manchester United Football Club, located at the heart of London's King's Cross. We have successfully completed a significant project for their temporary office space, providing a tailored solution that meets the needs of MUFC. Read on to learn more about how we stepped up to the challenge. Project Overview Manchester United Football Club recently underwent a significant renovation of their London offices. As part of this refurbishment, the club moved to a Fora serviced office in King's Cross. The primary requirement for the new office was the availability of quiet spaces for meetings and focused work to facilitate their operations. Our Contribution We recognised that MUFC had specific requirements for their project. To meet their needs for private meetings and focus areas, we introduced our FluidSpace Flex™ rental service. Our service offers pods that are perfectly suited for the club's needs. Through this solution, MUFC was able to enjoy high-quality furniture without the commitment of ownership. Additionally, the rental service allowed them to return the pods when they were no longer needed. Challenges and Highlights During the project, one main challenge was aligning the furniture solution with MUFC's specific requirements while keeping it within their budget constraints. To address this challenge, we offered a rental service that helped MUFC save up to 70% compared to purchasing the pods outright. The project duration was marked by seamless coordination between Fluid and Manchester United, ensuring timely delivery and setup of the pods. This efficiency enabled MUFC to focus on their core activities without any disruptions caused by furniture procurement and installation. Furniture Used Our FluidSpace Flex™ rental service provided them with the Torus L acoustic pods, which were tailored to their specific requirements. These pods offered the necessary privacy and functionality required for meetings and focused work. The pods contributed to a conducive work environment for the club's employees. Value and Impact Manchester United Football Club was able to save a considerable amount of money on initial costs by choosing our rental service. Moreover, the flexibility offered by this solution enabled the club to adjust as per their changing requirements. This cost-effective and flexible approach helped MUFC allocate their resources efficiently and get the most out of their office refurbishment project. Fluid's collaboration with Manchester United Football Club showcases our commitment to delivering innovative and customised solutions that are adjusted to the diverse needs of our clients. Our flexible rental service not only addressed MUFC's immediate furniture requirements but also provided a sustainable and cost-effective solution for their temporary office relocation. As Manchester United continues to thrive in their newly renovated office space, we remain ready to support them with any of their future furniture needs, ensuring that they can concentrate on their goals. • How Can Office Designs Impact Employee Wellbeing?

In the dynamic world of modern business, companies are increasingly focusing on the wellbeing of their employees as a critical factor in achieving success. The smart design of office spaces is crucial in achieving this, as it significantly influences employees' physical and mental health. In this blog post, we will discover the impact of office designs on employee wellbeing, focusing on key aspects such as ergonomics, natural light, and collaborative spaces. We will also discuss how services like FluidSpace and Fluid's innovative products can create an environment that fosters interaction, innovation, and overall employee happiness and productivity. Ergonomics and Comfort Office designs can significantly impact employee wellbeing, with one of the primary ways being the incorporation of ergonomic principles. When furniture and workspaces are designed ergonomically, it reduces the risk of musculoskeletal issues and discomfort, promoting a healthier and more comfortable work environment. The right chair, desk, and overall layout can prevent long-term health problems such as back pain and eye strain. FluidSpace, a service offered by Fluid, specialises in creating office designs that prioritise ergonomics and comfort. Our team of experts understands the significance of selecting furniture that supports the wellbeing of employees, ensuring a workspace that enhances productivity while minimising the risk of physical discomfort. Upgrading your furniture to ergonomics, such as the Lily ergonomic chair and the Hero height adjustable desk, contributes to physical and psychological wellbeing. Check out 5 reasons you should be standing more in the office. Natural Light and Open Spaces Another crucial element in office design is including natural light and open spaces. According to researchers, exposure to natural light boosts mood, increases productivity, and improves overall mental health. Offices with big windows for natural light and open layouts for flexibility create a more pleasant and inspiring work environment. We understand the significance of natural light in enhancing wellbeing and can assist in designing office spaces that maximise it. By strategically placing workstations and communal areas, you can ensure that employees benefit from natural light, fostering a positive and energising atmosphere within the workplace. Also, when natural light is limited, incorporating products such as the Green Frame floor screen into your office design can enhance employees' overall mood, reduce eye strain, and create a more comfortable work environment. FluidSpace ensures that all these elements are seamlessly integrated into the design, contributing to the holistic wellbeing of your employees. Collaborative Spaces and Social Interaction Collaboration is also a key component of many modern workplaces. Well-designed offices include collaborative spaces that encourage social interaction among employees. These spaces can range from casual breakout areas to formal meeting rooms, allowing employees to share ideas and build stronger professional relationships. Fluid understands the importance of fostering collaboration in the workplace, so our office designs include functional and inviting collaborative spaces. Incorporating elements that facilitate teamwork and communication, creates a positive and supportive work culture that contributes to employee wellbeing. The clever integration of innovative products, such as the Social modular sofa, ensures that your office design is not only visually appealing but also tailored to enhance employee satisfaction and productivity. Personalisation and Flexibility Every office has its unique culture and requirements. Office designs that allow personalisation and flexibility can contribute significantly to employee wellbeing.   Whether creating flexible workstations, incorporating brand elements, or optimising layouts for particular workflows, we can design an office environment that aligns with your individual needs and organisations’ values. A well-designed workspace prioritising individual needs is a powerful recruitment tool, showcasing your commitment to employee wellbeing and creating a positive first impression for potential talent. Office designs play a pivotal role in shaping the wellbeing of employees. From ergonomics and comfort to natural light and collaborative spaces, a well-designed office can positively impact both physical and mental health. By incorporating ergonomic furniture, maximising natural light, fostering collaboration, and allowing for personalisation, FluidSpace helps businesses create work environments that contribute to their employees' overall health and happiness. • The Circular Economy Model in Office Design

In today's fast-paced world, the traditional linear economy model in which people buy products, use them, and throw them away is both wasteful, unethical, and harming the planet for future generations to come. An increasingly popular way of tackling this 'transactional' approach to consumerism has come to the fore in recent years. The circular economy approach takes the fight to short-term thinking, championing sustainability and eco-conscious decisions throughout the supply chain. It is a transformative concept reshaping industries, including office design. This blog post dives into the circular economy, its environmental impact, and how Fluid is at the forefront of this sustainability revolution. We will look into some of our repurposed furniture, discuss Fluid's unique approach to designing entire office spaces sustainably, and highlight the cutting-edge FluidSpace Flex™ service that lets you rent eco-friendly furniture for your organisation. Understanding the Circular Economy What is the Circular Economy? The circular economy is an innovative approach to producing and consuming materials that minimises waste, promotes sustainable methods, and expands the lifespan of goods. Unlike the traditional take-make-waste economy model, the circular economy consists of five consumerism- altering concepts: reduce-reuse-refurbish-repair-recycle, creating a closed-up cycle that eliminates the need for disposal. This circular approach conserves resources, reduces environmental impact and promotes a more sustainable future. At Fluid, we have fully adopted the circular economy model due to its potential to increase resource efficiency, promote a more sustainable economy and reduce furniture costs. Below, we will explain how your company or organisation can reduce their ecological footprint by prioritising the circular approach and choosing repurposed furniture. But first, let's look more into the environmental impact of traditional office designs. Environmental Impact The traditional office design industry contributes significantly to environmental degradation through resource depletion and furniture ending up in landfills. Did you know that approximately 8.5 million tons of furniture end up in landfills yearly? But why is this a problem? Daily, landfills produce millions of cubic feet of methane gas and carbon dioxide-CO2 (greenhouse gases), natural invisible results of the decomposition of organic matter. Due to the continuous and enormous increase of waste in landfills, it is only possible to convert a small percentage f the emissions of these gases into energy. As a result, significant amounts of methane and CO2 escape into the atmosphere, where they warm it by trapping solar energy, causing the Greenhouse Effect. Choosing repurposed office furniture in your business is a circular economy approach that helps reduce the negative impacts of waste in landfills. Continue reading to discover how Fluid repurposes materials such as gym floors to create furniture and how they can help you transform your entire office. Fluid's Circular Economy Mission Eco-friendly Furniture One of the ways Fluid actively embraces circular economy principles is by repurposing old materials. Below, you'll find some of our top eco-friendly furniture picks. Collodi The Collodi Chair uses sustainable design to improve ergonomics and aesthetics while addressing the problem of plastic pollution. The frame is made of local beech wood, and the shell is crafted from compressed and molded felt created from recycled PET bottles. Around 52 bottles are used for each chair, and the shell is shaped with only heat and pressure, without any glues or adhesives. The Gymfloor These wooden tables and benches have been crafted from a 40-year-old gym floor! It shows how old materials can be reused and upcycled instead of disposed of. Read more about The Importance of Eco-Friendly Office Furniture. Eternity Swivel The Eternity chair's shell is made from upcycled fibre-based waste materials provided by Danish coffee producer BKI Kaffe and plastic waste from Grohe. Instead of burning industrial waste, this technique allows for efficient upcycling while reducing carbon emissions. These examples highlight the beauty of giving old material a second chance while minimising your environmental footprint. Discover more of our sustainable furniture here, or keep reading to explore how we can help you transform your office. Designing Your Whole Office Sustainably Fluid goes beyond individual furniture pieces, offering a holistic approach to sustainable office design. By collaborating with businesses to reimagine entire workspaces, Fluid helps create environments that reflect modern aesthetics while being environmentally responsible. This approach involves selecting repurposed furniture, incorporating sustainable materials, and optimising the layout for efficiency and flexibility. What is even more exciting is that at Fluid, we offer innovative furniture rental schemes like FluidSpace Flex™. The Unique Furniture Rental Scheme Furniture as a Service FluidSpace Flex™ 's unique subscription-based office furniture rental scheme embodies the spirit of the circular economy. Instead of purchasing furniture wholly, businesses can now rent their office furnishings and pods giving them the flexibility to increase or reduce their furniture on demand. It also reduces the market for new production, which uses extremely high levels of energy, and ensures that furniture can be reused, extending its lifespan and minimising waste. Still, the benefits of furniture rental schemes continue. Financial and Environmental Benefits Renting furniture with FluidSpace Flex™ offers significant financial advantages by eliminating the need for significant upfront costs. Businesses can allocate service budgets more efficiently and quickly adapt to evolving trends. From an environmental perspective, this actively contributes to a circular economy by reducing the demand for new furniture production and curbing disposal of old items. Fluid's commitment to the circular economy is a beacon of innovation in the office design landscape. By repurposing furniture, designing entire offices sustainably, and offering the revolutionary FluidSpace Flex™ service, they set the standard for a more responsible and eco-friendly approach. • Furnishing your office in a sustainable way

It’s crucial to keep your business looking and feeling fresh and modern to create workspaces that resonate with employees and clients. However, navigating the ever-shifting landscape of office design while keeping in line with corporate social responsibility values can be tricky. How can businesses stay ahead of trends without harming the planet? One solution to consider is rented furniture! Environmental Impact Just like any other design industry, the trend cycle is now shorter than ever. This is largely the influence of the internet, giving birth to a new concept - microtrends. The acceleration of constant changes in style doesn’t just mean your furniture can quickly feel dated. It also translates to tonnes of discarded furniture ending up in landfill. Flexibility to Suit You The office landscape is in a constant state of flux, influenced by technological advancements and changing work cultures. Rented office furniture emerges as a game-changer, offering flexibility that aligns perfectly with the dynamic nature of the office landscape. Rented furniture presents businesses with a diverse range of design options, no matter your office aesthetics. Whether you’re embracing minimalism or the incorporation of biophilic design elements, rented furniture allows your company to select furniture that feels current and representative of your business. The Green Choice Over 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded each year in the UK alone and the majority of this ends up in landfill. By switching to a rental scheme, furniture that is no longer required can be put back to use for someone else or refurbished and resold. Opting for rented office furniture means your business actively contributes to a circular economy that favours energy, labour and material conservation. Furthermore, you can opt for sustainably made pieces that use eco-friendly materials and choose manufacturing practices that minimise carbon output. Beyond Sustainability As well as sustainability, renting office furniture offers cost advantages compared to purchasing new items. Instead of paying huge upfront costs, renting furniture saves money and allows you to pay in instalments. The flexibility of rental agreements allows for easy adaptation to evolving trends, ensuring that the office remains a fresh and inspiring space without breaking the bank. Staying ahead of trends sustainably no longer needs to be a challenge. We just have to revisit the tried and tested reduce, reuse, recycle approach! Looking to freshen up your workspace? Instead of buying new, give some furniture a new lease of life and rent it instead! Learn more about our furniture rental service, FluidSpace Flex™ today.

  • Creating a Sustainable Workspace: The Importance of Eco-Friendly Office Furniture

In today's world, the importance of businesses adopting sustainability practices cannot be overstated. It is a critical response to the pressing global challenges of climate change and resource depletion. One often overlooked aspect of sustainability in the corporate world is office furniture. Sustainable office furniture not only aligns with environmental initiatives but also offers numerous benefits to both the environment and the workplace. In this blog, we'll explore the importance of eco-friendly office furniture and why your company should seriously consider making the switch. Circular Economy & Resource Conservation In a circular economy, materials never become waste. The circular economy is essential for the environment, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, it “tackles climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources.” What does this mean? We need to reduce the negative environmental impact of consuming the Earth’s finite resources by avoiding extracting new materials. Products and materials must be kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. … And what does this have to do with workplace furniture? It means that it’s important to opt for furniture with a longer life! Take for example, furniture made from over 50 recycled water bottles to become a Collodi chair. That chair can then be recycled entirely again and go on to become something else. Another way furniture can have its life extended is through furniture rental schemes, like FluidSpace Flex™. Over 22 million pieces of furniture are discarded each year in the UK alone. By switching to a rental scheme, furniture that is no longer required can be put back to use for someone else, or refurbished and resold. Learn more about FluidSpace Flex™. Energy-Efficient Production Process Another key reason to switch to more environmentally friendly furniture in your workplace is that many sustainable office furniture manufacturers prioritise energy-efficient production methods. They often choose production facilities that use renewable energy sources or have energy-efficient equipment. Additionally, manufacturers may implement leaner and more streamlined production techniques, minimising waste and energy consumption in the assembly of furniture pieces. Waste Reduction Through Quality Design Conventional furniture often has a short lifespan leading to more frequent replacements, which not only incurs additional manufacturing and transportation energy but also generates more waste ending up in landfills. According to National Geographic, “Landfills are still dangerous to the environment and human health. The methane that is released due to the decomposing waste is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global climate change. The air pollutants escaping from the landfill can also cause respiratory problems in people who live close to the landfill.” In contrast, sustainable office furniture is built to last. With durability in mind, designers are ensuring a longer lifespan and reducing the need for replacements. This, in turn, conserves resources and minimises the waste generated by discarded furniture being sent to landfills. Top Sustainable Furniture Picks It can be really difficult when searching for products to find the real deal in a forest of greenwashing. To save you the hassle, we’ve listed some of our top eco-friendly furniture picks below… N02™ Recycle The innovative N02™ Recycle Chair is a multi-use chair made from upcycled plastic household waste that can be recycled again. With the shell and arm pads made from 100% recycled polypropylene, the metal base made of over 50% recycled materials and the seat cushion made of 98% post-consumer recycled polyester, the N02™ Recycle Chair is an excellent choice for your sustainable office. Eternity Swivel The shell of the Eternity chair is made from upcycled fibre-based waste materials from Danish coffee producer BKI Kaffe and plastic waste from Grohe. The technique allows efficient upcycling of industrial waste while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions, instead of the waste being burned. The Eternity chair is designed for disassembly, which means that each component, in its purest form, can be upcycled into new production cycles. The new composite material is designed to be reprocessed again and again. Whale Boardroom Table These incredible tables have been made from thousands of PET bottles that have been fished from Amsterdam’s canals. The bottles are transformed into raw materials to create new products. In one boardroom table, 672 recycled PET bottles are used to create PET foam and 332 recycled PET bottles for PET felt. Besides the recycled plastic, Vepa also makes optimal use of other ‘waste streams’ at their factory, recycling waste to be used in other products. The Gymfloor Table The Gymfloor collection is designed from a circular point of view. The solid wooden tables and benches are made of a 40-year-old gym floor - a perfect example of reusing and upcycling old materials that would have otherwise gone to landfill. Collodi Collodi Chair is a response to the ever-growing problem of plastic pollution and proof that sustainability, when designed right, enhances rather than compromises on the ergonomic and aesthetic features of the product. Collodi is made from 100% recyclable materials. The frame, crafted from locally sourced beech wood, is paired with a shell made of compressed and moulded felt. The latter is made almost entirely out of recycled PET bottles – about 52 for each chair – and shaped without any glues or adhesives, using only heat and pressure. Once no longer in use, Collodi can be handed on to another happy user or recycled entirely. • How Much Does It Cost To Invest In An Office Pod?

With the number of benefits that office pods can present to a workspace, it’s probably of little surprise to hear that we’re regularly asked for a quote. Many of these enquiries are from clients that are restructuring their office space, changing location, seeking more flexible ways of working or enticing their workforce back to the office after working remotely for a lengthy period. While it might seem incredibly efficient to have a generic price range, it isn’t quite that straightforward, unfortunately. One thing we can tell you, however, is that buying an office pod is a great investment in the long term. Most office pod designs carry universal similarities in terms of their office-within-an-office structure and flexibility, but there are numerous additions that can impact on an overall cost. These can include acoustics, furniture, compliance, and a whole host of add-ons. Investing in an office pod is a positive move for both employees and businesses with benefits including noise reduction, confidentiality, and privacy. You can choose your own configuration to suit your working space and they can easily relocate with you if you decide to upgrade to a new office space. Let’s look at what some of these considerations might be: Size The size of your chosen office pod will be determined by your available space and will impact total cost. If you have a large busy commercial space, you might want to optimise the space with a larger pod that can be used for several focussed, or collaborative needs. Large seated pods that can accommodate 2-4 people for informal meetings or private conversations, with desk and seating for efficient tasking are becoming ever-more popular additions to larger plan spaces. Looking for a bigger option? Flexible meeting rooms can feature up to six people and can be adapted to suit your personal working needs. Equally, if your core business involves remote video or conference calling, you may opt for a solo pod that offers a more compact fit and keeps the cost down. Solo booths are extremely popular in the current climate, particularly as employees seek a bit of solitude away from noise disruptions. Standing room phone booths are also gaining traction as a welcome reprieve from sitting at a desk for seven hours (though there are seated options for slightly longer working periods). Acoustics Acoustic pods are one of the most requested choices from many of our clients. Open plan offices have made an almighty comeback over the last few years, but so has the noise pollution that they were renowned for. Office pods and booths have proven to be a saving grace for employees worldwide looking to escape into a serene space to concentrate or communicate more effectively. Though enclosed pods tend to be more popular, the use of soft upholstery and carefully selected fabrics allow even open configurations to absorb sound efficiently and create mini-escape havens in an otherwise busy office. Top Tip- Most pods range from 20db to 45dB. A more optimal point lies around the 35dB mark. This is due to improved concentration levels when an element of background noise is present- silence tends to make staff feel uncomfortable! Style Choosing the style of your next office pod can be the most exciting aspect of the selection process. An enclosed option tends to be the most expensive due to their superior acoustic performance and increased quantity of materials. If you’re keen to provide a private space that is completely free of distractions, this is the best option. Alternatively, you can choose campers and dens for an in-built environment, open fronted, or open topped for an all-inclusive mobile workspace, and to add a bit of variety. They’re all great choices for productive collaboration and employee interaction without impacting on the remaining office. Furniture Furniture options will vary for each pod or booth. Certain pods will come with integrated furniture and can only be customised with finishes. Some have a small table, others have height-adjustable tables with integrated technology for flexible working. There’s even the option to buy them empty and choose your own furniture configurations. There’s really no fixed rule that determines what works best, the key is to ensure that you pod contains the appropriate furniture and technology to best suit your workplace requirements. For a creative agency where collaboration is key, for example, that could mean a comfortable, open sided booth with effective acoustic properties. For a recruitment firm that frequently conducts sensitive candidate interviews, an enclosed 4-person pod with benching and soundproofing may be more suitable. Optional add-ons Just as when buying a new car, it’s often the add-ons that provide the boost to the original price tag! Optional add-ons provide office pods with integrated lighting, temperature control, power and data points to help facilitate varying working requirements. While these can prove to be costly, they’re often necessary to accommodate the modern employee with flexible work patterns. In summary Office pods are fast becoming an essential element of the flexible workspace, with options to suit every budget. With a level of customisable options, size and layout possibilities, plus a plethora of additional add-ons, finding the right pod for your space is often as individual as your business. The most important thing is that your office pods meet the needs of your organisation and people, making them as productive as possible.
